Job description

A Trainee Structured Cabling Engineer will support the installation, testing, and maintenance of data and fibre cabling systems. This entry level role is ideal for someone looking to build a career in networking infrastructure, telecommunications, or those already learning the trade and on there way to becoming an Engineer. Full training is usually provided, with opportunities to gain industry certifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the installation of structured cabling systems, including Cat6, Cat6a, fibre optic, and voice cabling.
• Support senior engineers in pulling, routing, and terminating cables in commercial and industrial environments.
• Help install containment systems such as trunking, conduit, cable trays, and basket.
• Help to terminate and test copper and fibre cabling using industry standard tools and testers.
• Communicate effectively with team members, site supervisors, and clients when required.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
• Good practical ability and comfortable using hand and power tools.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship.
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
• Good problem solving.
• Basic understanding of IT or networking (advantage but not essential).
• Full UK driving licence.
