Job description

The Care Assistant will carry out a high standard of care and assist to meet residents’ individual needs within a caring environment.

Responsibilities

  • To attend to the personal needs of residents on a daily basis, with respect and dignity for the individual
  • To carry out a high standard of care and any daily living programmes as directed by Senior Staff
  • To treat all matters relating to the Home with strict confidentiality
  • To maintain a safe environment by ensuring adherence to appropriate Health and Safety and Fire procedures
  • To keep appropriate records, as directed by Senior Staff
  • To bring any areas of concern to the attention of Senior Staff
  • To report all accidents/incidents to senior staff and record as directed
  • To be aware of emergency procedures
  • To accompany residents on outings, holidays, to attend appointments
  • To act as a named worker for designated residents, under the direction of Senior Staff.
  • To assist residents to make choices and encourage independence at all times
  • To carry out day care programmes for those residents attending our day care unit as directed by the Day Care Worker.
  • To attend training courses and staff meetings as directed by the Manager
  • To undertake day and night duties and assist in housekeeping tasks as required by the home.
  • Any other duties as reasonable required by the Home Manager

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Evidence and understanding of and respect for the needs of people with learning and physical disabilities
  • Awareness of health and safety practices within a working environment
  • Willing to undertake relevant training e.g. induction training, or NVQ / QCF level 2
  • Proficiency in understanding, communicating and writing in English to level required by the duties of the post
  • Basic numeracy required by the duties of the post (as endorsed by appropriate qualification or use of numeracy skills in a work or home environment).
  • Be willing to work flexibly to fulfil the requirements of the Home,
  • Must be willing to behave in a manner which respects the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland
  • Willing to maintain registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council
