About the Role Good Morning West Belfast The Catering and Facilities Assistant plays a key role in ensuring that communal meals and facilities within the Good Morning West Belfast service are delivered safely, hygienically, and efficiently. The post holder will be responsible for the planning, ordering, preparation and serving of meals, maintaining kitchen and canteen hygiene standards, and overseeing health and safety requirements in collaboration with other staff. This role supports the wellbeing, social engagement, and inclusion of older adults attending Ardcomm facilities. This role is funded on a year-to-year rolling basis. While we anticipate continued funding, the post is dependent on ongoing funding availability and may be subject to review if funding arrangements change.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and serve meals in line with planned menus, dietary requirements, and nutritional guidance.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen, canteen, and food storage areas, including regular cleaning and disinfection.
  • Monitor food stock, carry out fridge/freezer checks, rotate food items, and ensure proper storage to minimise waste.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is maintained, safe, and used correctly in accordance with health and safety procedures.
  • Assist with setting up and clearing communal dining areas, ensuring older adults feel welcome and supported during meals.
  • Collaborate with the wider team to ensure smooth operation of organisational events, workshops, and community activities requiring catering support.
  • Follow all relevant hygiene, health, and safety legislation and best practice guidelines, and report any concerns promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of food stock, cleaning schedules, and any incidents related to food or facilities.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Level 2 or equivalent qualifications in Food Preparation and Cooking, Catering, or Hospitality, or relevant practical experience.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and safety regulations (Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate desirable).
  • Understanding of safe kitchen practices, cleaning, equipment use and waste management.
