Band 6 Specialist Nurse Pre-Assessment Ophthalmology
Job description
The post holder is responsible for the pre-operative nursing assessment (pre-assessment) of patients being prepared for a variety of Ophthalmic procedures. They will provide a comprehensive nursing assessment including baseline outcome measurements, ensuring that all necessary investigations and results are collated prior to the patient’s admission. They will liaise with other members of the wider Surgical / Anaesthetic teams as required, regarding any issues, which may arise. Responsibilities
- Engage with other members of the Pre-Assessment team in development and delivery of the service.
- Work collaboratively with the wider Ophthalmology service, and other related teams to ensure the highest standard of surgical ophthalmic care is provided to patients.
- Actively engage with service users, families and carers to ensure patients have been provided with the required information for their procedures and complete their consent where appropriate.
- Encourage and promote the improvement of safety and quality for service users, staff and visitors by leading the promotion of a positive Health and Safety culture.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Registered Nurse on Part 1 (Adult) of the NMC live register.
- Have 4 years’ post-registration nursing experience, with at least 2 years’ specialist knowledge in an Ophthalmology setting.
