Medical Receptionist


Job description

Medical receptionists are the first point of contact our patients have with the practice. The role is varied and includes dealing with patients in person and by telephone and signposting them correctly to the most appropriate person who can deal with their enquiry. It is essential that confidentiality is maintained at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Opening and closing the building.
  • Operating the electronic appointment system.
  • Dealing with actions and messages from the doctors (electronically and by other message media).
  • Scanning and electronic filing.
  • Ensuring results are given out accurately.
  • Working a rota shift system and covering for other staff if required.
  • Operating the repeat prescription request line on a rota basis.
  • Handling incoming/outgoing mail.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • 5 GCSE at Grade A-C or equivalent (to include English & Maths) 6 months or more experience of working directly with the public in last 3 years.
  • Computer literacy skills.
  • Working as part of a team.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of working directly with the public in busy NHS environment in last three years.
  • Experience of using EMIS/Docman.
