Job description

Help with the committee and the main priests with the effective running of the Hindu Temple.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness of the temple and surrounding premises, prepare the prayer area, arrange flowers and garlands, and ensure all items required for worship are properly organised. Assist with preparation of prasad/bhog and keep the materials ready.
  • Provide practical assistance during Sundarkand Path, Hanuman Chalisa and Balaji prayers by arranging prayer materials, organising books and resources, and helping ensure activities run smoothly under the guidance of the officiating priest.
  • Assist with the organisation of weekly and monthly religious programmes like Mata ki chowki, Hawans and group recitations by coordinating arrangements, preparing required materials and supporting the smooth running of the gatherings.
  • Provide practical support during Kirtan, bhajans and other devotional music activities by assisting with arrangements for musical instruments, preparing materials and helping facilitate participation of attendees under supervision.
  • Maintain good understanding of Hindu scriptures and traditions including the Vedas, Upanishads, Ramayan, Mahabharat and Bhagavad Gita to support temple activities and appropriately refer religious or doctrinal queries to the officiating priest.
  • Welcome visitors and provide general assistance, including helping them understand temple procedures and directing specific religious questions to the officiating priest where required.
  • Assist with preparation of religious and community events, including arranging materials and organising the venue for ceremonies such as marriages, engagements, funerals and other gatherings in accordance with Hindu rituals and procedures.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Previous experience in a Hindu temple or similar institution with a minimum of 2 years. The candidate should also have any UK government approved Level 1 qualifications.
  • Should have a basic understanding of the Hindu temple rituals and prayer procedures.

Desirable Skills

  • Possession of a valid UK driving licence.

Further Information

Location: Lakshmi Narayan Mandir Indian Community Centre. Salary: Above national minimum wage, to be confirmed., monthly paid. All job applicants will needs to provide documentation to prove that the candidate can work any where in the UK without any restrictions. Any candidate living outside UK should provide the valid travel documents showing the eligibility to work in the UK without any restrictions.
