Job description

To assist the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in the smooth and effective management of the ward.

Responsibilities

• Develop good interpersonal relationships with patients, relatives and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
• To provide leadership and direction for staff within the ward/department to promote the delivery of safe and effective care.
• In the absence of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to be responsible for the effective management of the ward.
• To support the professional development of nursing staff.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Level 1 Registered Nurse (Adult) on the live NMC Register. 2 years post registration experience working in an acute medical setting.

Desirable Skills

• Ability to apply structured methods to evaluate care and practice including audit and other service improvement processes.
