Transport Planner/Modeller (SPTO)
Job description
Reporting into the TPMU structure the post holder will be employed as a Senior Transport Planner/Modeller at SPTO level. The key responsibilities of the post will include: Lead on the development, review, and implementation of regional and local transport plans. Contribute to wider government policy goals including decarbonisation, sustainability, and economic growth. Provide advice to senior officials, ministers, and external stakeholders on transport policy, transport planning and modelling. Align transport planning work with the Departmental outcomes and strategic objectives. Build strong relationships with councils and other stakeholders and encourage collaborative engagement in the development process.

Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Hold a minimum of a 2:2 Honours degree in a relevant subject such as: Engineering, Transport Planning, Geography, Economics, Mathematics or Statistics, Data Science or related disciplines
- A minimum of 3 years’ relevant post qualification experience, in at least one or more of the following areas: Transport planning, transport modelling or traffic /transport consultancy; Data analysis, forecasting or statistical modelling...
- ...Preparation of transport business cases, feasibility studies, appraisals, or impact assessments; Development of Transport Policy, monitoring and evaluation frameworks; Working with large datasets and producing technical reports.
- Have at least 2 years’ experience of leading and managing a team of staff and resources.
Desirable Skills
- If necessary the following shortlisting criteria will be used: A relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g. MSc in Transport Planning, Transport Engineering, Data Science, Geography, Environmental Engineering/science).
