Breastfeeding Peer Support Link Worker Band 3
Job description
The post holder is required to support health professionals in providing a high standard of information to breastfeeding mothers, their partners and babies before, and after birth regarding how to access breastfeeding support services in the community. Following appropriate induction and training the Breastfeeding Peer Support Link Worker will have the required skills, knowledge and competence to work with minimal supervision and use their initiative to communicate with women information regarding the Breastfeeding Peer Support Service and additional breastfeeding support networks. The primary aim of this post is to support an integrated effective pro-active approach to women receiving breastfeeding peer support. This will involve accessing client information, obtaining consent from women to receive contact from a peer supporter and providing information through direct contact with mothers about the peer support service in the antenatal and early post-natal period. NICE guidance recommends that a local peer support volunteer should contact all breastfeeding mothers within 48 hours of discharge from hospital. This post will help ensure that NICE guidance is being implemented and that programmes are in line with the evidence base for increasing breastfeeding rates. The post will involve working closely with the Trust Infant Feeding Leads, Infant Feeding Practitioner and Midwifery services.
