Job description

The main purpose of the role is to act as a Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) as part of the new team of Oncology Breast nurses, providing expert treatment and care, coordination and support for patients with breast cancer at an advanced practice level. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to advancing the body of knowledge through education, research and audit as well as developing practice in others with regard to this patient group. They will be expected to play a key leadership role in conjunction with the other clinical nurse specialists to lead the service and deliver the strategic elements of the service. To work within the multi-professional team in order to ensure a seamless, coordinated approach to care and timely onward referral to other professionals and agencies as appropriate. The post holder will work across service boundaries in both the breast cancer and the oncology service. He/she will lead on service improvement to include the follow up pathway.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the live NMC Register (General Adult Branch).
• Advanced Communications Skills Training or prepared to work towards.

Desirable Skills

• Counselling course, Teaching and assessment skills.
• Organisation and negotiation skills.
• Ability to deal with complex and difficult emotional situations.
