Job description

This Project Worker 2 role will focus on improving speech, language and communication through working with early years staff, children and their parents in the Let's Talk Newtownabbey programme. Please see employer website for full job details & person specification.

Responsibilities

  • Building partnerships with professionals in local early years settings
  • Organising training for parents and professionals
  • Delivering speech and language programmes in early years settings
  • Engaging with parents and supporting them in their role as co-educators, through workshops, individual support and access to training
  • Supporting early years staff to implement speech and language programmes in different settings
  • Embedding a whole community approach to improving speech, language and communication

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Minimum Level 5 qualification in Early Years, Degree in Early Years, Teaching, Speech Therapy or other relevant subject
  • Demonstrable experience of working with children in an early years setting
  • Demonstrable experience of working with parents to support them with involvement in children’s learning
  • Experience of multi-agency working
  • Experience of developing programmes to support children’s learning and development
  • Experience of carrying out evaluations and writing reports
  • A full driving licence and use of a car for business purposes. As driving is part of this role, applicants with a disability that prevents them from driving should be able to demonstrate an alternative means of meeting the mobility requirements.

Further Information

Salary: £28,124 (FTE) per annum pro rata, to be confirmed. THRiVE Newtownabbey is a collaboration between local schools, early years settings, youth groups, community groups, parents, children and young people, all working together to raise aspiration, improve attainment and promote wellbeing. Barnardo's Family Connections are one the THRiVE collaborative partners, delivering family support, parent programmes, family learning programmes and the BOOST educational programme. Let's Talk Newtownabbey is a new initiative to promote speech, language and communication development in early years. It includes delivery of two evidence based programmes- Early Talk Boost and It's Time to Talk- in schools and nurseries. It also includes support for parents and professionals to embed the approach across the community.
