Job description

We are seeking a Stainless Steel Fabricator to join our production team, working primarily with marine-grade 316 stainless steel. The role involves the fabrication and welding of high-quality components for rigid inflatable boats (RIBs), including handrails, frames, fuel tanks and deck fittings. This position will involve working closely under the guidance of a highly experienced fabricator with over 30 years in the trade. The successful candidate will be expected to learn established methods, techniques, and standards that are specific to Redbay Boats. Given the nature of our work, welds are not dressed. They are only polished, meaning a consistently high standard of weld appearance, uniformity, and control is essential from the outset. We are open to applicants at all levels, from fully qualified fabricators to those at an early stage in their career who are keen to learn a skilled trade. The key requirement is attitude, attention to detail, and the ability to meet Redbay standards.

Responsibilities

  • Fabrication and TIG welding of 316 stainless steel components.
  • Working to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Producing clean, precise welds to a high visual standard.
  • Learning and applying established fabrication methods.
  • Maintaining accuracy and consistency across all work.
  • Working as part of a team to meet production deadlines.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings is essential.
  • Experience in stainless steel fabrication and TIG welding desirable but not essential.
  • Willingness to learn from an experienced fabricator and adopt company methods.
  • High level of attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
  • Ability to work with thin wall stainless steel to a clean, polished finish.
  • Reliable and capable of working within a team environment.

All successful applicants will be required to complete a practical welding test Redbay Boats Ltd will carry out a coding test relevant to the weld standards required Applicants must demonstrate the ability, or potential, to achieve the required weld quality Pay and Benefits: Competitive pay based on experience and skill level Overtime paid at time and a half for the first 5 hours, double time there after 28 days annual leave (including statutory holidays) Training and development provided where required Additional Information: This role is as much about attitude and fit as it is about experience.
