Playgroup Assistant


Job description

Work as a keyworker and part of a team to a group of children. Help ensure the playroom is appropriately laid out before the session commences and is tidied up after the session ends. Help ensure good standards of hygiene are followed and equipment is safe and regularly checked. Assist in planning and preparation of activities which allow the children to experience the breadth of the Northern Ireland Pre-school Curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and set up play areas, material and equipment
  • Lead games and supervise children
  • Give out refreshments/serve lunch (rota)
  • Talk to children about their concerns or worries
  • Deal with injuries and emergencies
  • Build relationships with parents, carers and professionals
  • Keep observations/provide reports as a Key Worker and complete admin tasks
  • Make sure the play space is healthy, safe and secure
  • Attend all staff meetings

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Level 2 Childcare Qualification

Desirable Skills

  • Level 3 Childcare Qualification and experience working in a playgroup setting
  • Up to date Child Protection training and working knowledge of the NI pre-school curriculum

Further Information

Work Time: 26 hours per week over 4 fixed days each week. Working time of 8.45am to 3.15pm, flexibility may be discussed. Position is from September 2026 to June 2027 with possibility of extension.
