Breast Oncology Clinical Nurse
Job description
The main purpose of the role is to act as a Cancer Clinical Nurse as part of the new team of Oncology Breast nurses, providing expert treatment and care, coordination and support for patients with breast cancer at an advanced practice level. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to advancing the body of knowledge through education, research and audit as well as developing practice in others with regard to this patient group. They will be expected to play a key leadership role in conjunction with the other clinical nurse specialists to lead the service and deliver the strategic elements of the service. They will be expected to work within the multi-professional team in order to ensure a seamless, coordinated approach to care and timely onward referral to other professionals and agencies as appropriate. The post holder will work across service boundaries in both the breast cancer and the oncology service. He/she will lead on service improvement to include the follow up pathway. Responsibilities
- To act as a key worker for patients with Breast cancer offering an accessible point of contact across the patient journey, consistent with the responsibilities outlined in the Improving Outcome Guidelines.
- To be responsible for organisation and management of own specialist caseload.
- Within a nurse provided service, undertake advanced holistic assessment to include physical, emotional, psychological, social and spiritual needs and develop an appropriate plan of care and appropriate onward referral.
- To develop, deliver and evaluate new models of review, which are risk weighted and needs tailored to maximise benefit to patients and the service.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- At least three years post-registration experience 2 of which should be working with breast surgery or oncology patients.
- Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the live NMC Register (General Adult Branch)
- Hold a relevant diploma / degree.
- Hold a relevant post-registration specialist practice qualification or be willing to undertake and successfully complete within a specified timeframe.
- Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment.
