Senior Data Scientist


Job description

The College is seeking applications for a Senior Data Scientist. The Senior Data Scientist will provide leadership in data analytics, reporting, and digital insight across the College. The postholder will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with ETI, DfE, audit and externally funded project requirements, while driving a culture of evidence-based decision-making. This role will research, design, and implement advanced analytical models and predictive tools to support curriculum, support services, financial planning, quality improvement, and strategic development. The postholder will translate complex data outputs into clear, actionable insights for senior leaders, managers, and external stakeholders. The Senior Data Scientist will provide coordination to / steer the Online Services and Management Information System Team, ensuring robust data governance, continuous improvement, and alignment with sectoral best practice.

Responsibilities

  • Pro-actively lead on the development and implementation of the College’s data and analytics strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and sectoral requirements.
  • Conduct high-level analytical data mining across curriculum, support and business areas to address organisational challenges and inform continuous improvement.
  • Provide strategic leaders with live accurate data reports weekly. Identify trends in compliance with ETI and DfE requirements.
  • Collect, clean, and validate large structured and unstructured datasets for accuracy and usability through data mining.
  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of advanced data models, dashboards, and reporting frameworks to support strategic decision-making and compliance.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Have at least a Level 6 qualification in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
  • Have at least 3 years employment experience in the area of Data Science or Data Analysis.
  • Have at least 3 years employment experience using SQL, PowerBI and programming languages, such as Python, Java or SAS.
  • Have at least 2 years employment experience in project management in a dynamic, research-orientated environment.
