Working under the direction of the Distribution Centre Manager, the postholder will oversee the day to day running of the Distribution Centre ensuring the smooth operation of the fastmoving environment is maintained. You will be responsible for assisting in the loading and unloading of stock from our vehicles and those of our distribution partners and preparing goods for sale by Oxfam Ireland’s charity shop network. You will ensure the highest standards of housekeeping are maintained whilst complying fully with Oxfam Ireland’s policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Supervise all day-to-day activities of the warehouse operation, including all equipment and materials in line with legislative requirements and all other agreed procedures, as directed by the Distribution Centre Manager.
- Maximising efficiencies and proactively planning the utilisation of DC resources to deliver on targets and KPI’S.
- Supervise and manage team KPI productivity on an ongoing basis in conjunction with the DC manager.
- Daily use of EPOS software.
- Supervision of goods inwards and outwards, ensuring efficient loading and off-loading of vehicles, compiling of shop orders and preparation of labels for 3rd party couriers. Conducting regular stock counts and update the inventory.
- Ensure the Distribution Centre is a safe and secure working environment, free from theft or damage.
- Monitor all Health & Safety matters relating to the DC and operations, ensuring staff and others are aware of their responsibilities. Identify and report to DC Manager any safety hazards and potential stock loss.
- Contribute to the long-term planning for the DC, including seeking continuous improvements and efficiencies where possible in conjunction with the DC Manager.
- Actively participate in the recruitment, induction and ongoing training of staff and volunteers in line with Oxfam Ireland’s needs, policies and procedures.
- Conduct annual appraisals with all direct reports and identify any training or re-training needs.
- Ensure that all staff operating vehicles and machinery are insured and licenced to do so and that such vehicles and machinery are operated in line with company policy.
- Supervise and manage overall team performance on an ongoing basis in conjunction with the DC manager.
- Supervision and quality checks on the processing of new and pre-owned stock to individual donor requirements, including de-branding and re-labelling of items.
- Conducting regular stock counts and update the inventory.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Managing all goods in and out and loading of vehicles. Ensuring the workplace is secure and safe from hazards whilst complying with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
- Strong people and performance management skills including the ability to lead, coach, motivate and train staff and volunteers with varying levels of ability.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build and maintain a culture focused on continuous improvement, including building and maintaining working relationships.
- Experience of being a creative problem-solver with skills to identify opportunities and generate new ideas.
- GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English. Good working knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook. Eligibility to work in UK and Ireland.

Desirable Skills
- Demonstrable experience of supervising a busy warehouse operation including.
- Valid counterbalance forklift licence.
