Cook - Corkey House


Job description

The role of the Cook is to assist the Cook Manager to plan and cook nutritional meals (including baking) to meet the needs of the residents, within the Christian ethos and aims of Corkey House.

Responsibilities

  • To assist the Cook Manager with food preparation, cooking and baking.
  • To cook meals.
  • To prepare vegetables.
  • To help prepare snacks (e.g. tea, sandwiches, supper’s etc).
  • To serve food.
  • To clean and tidy work areas in the kitchen, including shelves, drawers and cooker.
  • To wash dishes.
  • To clean floors, tiles and appliances.
  • To take rubbish to bins
  • To take part in staff meetings within the home.
  • To take part in any training sessions held in the home.
  • To carry out any other reasonable duty which is necessary for the support and well-being of the residents.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Evidence an understanding of and respect for the needs of older people.
  • Awareness of health and safety practices within a catering and residential environment.
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Experience of catering outside a domestic setting.
  • Willing to work additional hours to fulfil the requirements of the Home.
  • All applicants must be willing to behave in a manner which respects the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.
