Key Worker
Job description
To contribute to the effective operation of the Little Orchids Children’s Centre by providing support to children with additional needs to achieve positive and agreed outcomes.
Responsibilities
- To help prepare and fully set out the playroom before children arrive and tidy it up after the children leave.
- To ensure all health and safety policies and procedures are implemented and follow the daily cleaning rota and appropriate check lists.
- To help implement daily routine and be flexible to any changes..
- To act as key worker to designated children and to regularly assess children’s progress and needs, maintaining records as appropriate.
- Where appropriate to attend and participate in staff meetings and be proactive, and assist in curriculum planning.
- Where necessary to take part in special events and group outings.
- To work in partnership with parents by sharing information with them on an on-going basis.
- To listen to, encourage, enable, stimulate and ensure the safe keeping of children.
- Where necessary, to attend relevant evening meetings and courses as directed by the Centre Manager or Management Committee and to implement knowledge gained to improve practice.
- To maintain complete confidentiality with regard to any information concerning the children, their families or colleagues that are ascertained through working at the centre, unless it is in the interest of the child to disclose.
- To work in co-operation with other professional and voluntary agencies in the community.
- To communicate effectively with colleagues in the team.
- To ensure policies are complied with.
- To comply with Little Orchids safeguarding procedures.
- To respond positively to direction and supervision.
- To contribute to evaluation of the work and future planning.
- To ensure you follow staff behaviour and code of conduct.
- All staff to maintain continued professional development file and update regularly.
- Work on own initiative.
- To undertake any other relevant duties that may be required.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- NVQ level 3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development or equivalent.
Desirable Skills
- Experience of working with children with additional needs.
- Experience of working with children aged 2-4.
