Locum Consultant in Emergency Medicine
Job description
To provide leadership of the Emergency Dept by overseeing, prioritising and delegating the workload to ensure the provision of safe, effective, high quality emergency care in a timely manner for all patients attending the Emergency Dept.
Responsibilities
- To assume the role, when required, of team leader in the management of critically ill or injured patients attending the ED.
- To undertake the initial assessment, resuscitation, diagnosis and treatment of acutely ill or injured patients attending the ED.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Applicants must have full registration with a license to practise with the General Medical Council (UK) at the date of commencing employment.
- Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register for Emergency Medicine, OR
- Be within 3 months of obtaining their CCT in Emergency Medicine and being admitted to the GMC Specialist Register for Emergency Medicine at the date of interview, OR
- Have submitted a CESR application in Emergency Medicine to the GMC at the date of interview, OR
- Have been elected to Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine.
- Applicants must hold Fellowship of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (FRCEM) or Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM).
- Hold a current full driving licence, which is valid for use in the UK, and have access to a car on appointment.
- This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
Desirable Skills
- Higher qualifications, for example MSc, PhD, MD etc.
- Publications / presentations.
- Research.
- Hold current ATLS or ETC, ALS, APLS or EPALS certification.
