Unit Head


Job description

As a Unit Head you will play an integral role in the running of the branch. You will lead a room and be responsible for a team of Nursery Assistants, whilst providing a caring, and motivating environment for the children in your care. You will be supported in your role by the Manager and Deputy Manager and will work in an environment where training and development is encouraged and embraced.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for organising and implementing a stimulating and varied programme of age appropriate activities.
  • To ensure all play programmes are appropriately delivered and implemented within the unit following the High Scope routine.
  • To carry out all activities to meet appropriate policies and procedures.
  • To follow the roles and responsibilities of management in their absence to run the unit efficiently and effectively.
  • To ensure the roles and responsibilities of the staff in the unit are being met.
  • To work with branch management to ensure efficient and effective running of the branch and to contribute ideas for improvement.
  • To show prospective parents around the unit.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Level 3 Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development or equivalent.
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to a quality child centred environment.
  • A good level of understanding of children's individual needs.
  • Have worked with children between the ages of 0-7 years.

Desirable Skills

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Children's Care, Learning and Development, or working towards.
  • BA Hons in Early Years Studies.
  • Prior experience of managing staff.
  • Certificate in Child Protection training.
  • Valid Paediatric First Aid.
