Job description
The post holder will be part of the multi-disciplinary team providing the day-to-day health protection function, including the management of infectious and environmental hazards and supporting response to major incidents impacting on health of the population of Northern Ireland. The post holder will develop specialist knowledge and skills to undertake case management, liaise with, and provide health protection advice and response across a range of partner organisations, professionals and the public. They deliver this through a range of core functions including surveillance and monitoring, operational support and advice, education, training and research. Will undergo a programme of on-going development and education to build on existing knowledge and develop skills to provide specialist health protection advice and meet competencies required to undertake the role. Responsibilities
- Under supervision of the duty room co-ordinator, contribute to the day to day running of the acute response function to ensure high quality, safe and effective delivery of the health protection service.
- Provide first point of contact for specialist knowledge, support and advice to health professionals & the public on health protection matters.
- Communicates confidential, sensitive, complex information to medical professionals & to members of the public.
- Undertake initial assessment and management of routine acute response work and non-complex incidents.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Two years post-registration experience.
- Degree, diploma or other nursing qualification and two years post registration experience in a clinical/community setting or Five years post registration nursing experience in a clincal/community setting.
- Currently registered on the live NMC Register.
- Specialist experience in infection control evidenced by completion of an infection control course or one years’ experience in this field.
- Experience of communicating complex & sensitive information to a diverse population.
Desirable Skills
- Further study in Infection Prevention and Control or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Experience of building and developing effective stakeholder relationships.
