Job description

We are looking for a reliable and safety-focused Saw Operator to join our firewood production team. The role involves operating cutting equipment to process timber into firewood products while maintaining production targets, quality standards, and strict health & safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate firewood saws, log splitters, conveyors, and related machinery safely and efficiently
• Cut logs to required lengths and specifications
• Inspect timber for defects, metal contamination, or unsafe material before cutting
• Carry out routine machine checks, cleaning, and basic maintenance
• Report equipment faults or safety issues immediately
• Maintain a clean and organised work area
• Follow all health & safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times
• Assist with loading/unloading timber and general yard duties when required

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Previous experience operating saws, forestry equipment, or machinery preferred
• Physically fit and capable of heavy manual handling in outdoor conditions
• Strong awareness of workplace safety and machine operation risks
• Ability to work independently and maintain productivity
• Basic mechanical knowledge is an advantage

• Good attention to detail
• Practical and hands-on mindset
• Able to work under pressure and meet production targets
• Strong work ethic
• Safety-conscious at all times
• Forklift or chainsaw certification is beneficial but not essential
