As an enthusiastic and safety conscious Yard Operative, you’ll be the first point of contact for customers arriving in the yard, ensuring they receive a warm welcome, efficient service, and the products they need to get the job done. You’ll help keep the yard safe, organised, and well stocked while supporting the wider branch team in delivering excellent customer service. As a Yard Operative, you’ll play a vital role in making sure customers have a great experience every time they visit. You’ll be part of a supportive, values led business with a clear purpose of Building our future, through helping others build theirs.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers in a friendly, professional manner and assist with product enquiries.
- Safely load/unload vehicles and assemble customer orders for collection or delivery.
- Operate forklifts and handling equipment in line with safety procedures.
- Manage stock efficiently through ordering, replenishment, and participation in stock counts.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised yard environment.
- Work collaboratively with the branch team to achieve sales, margin, and service targets.
- Complete health & safety checks and mandatory training to company standards.
- Positively represent the company and contribute to our values of Decency, Passion, and Pride.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Experience in a similar role or trade environment is an advantage.
- Forklift licence (or willingness to train).
- Strong awareness and adherence of health & safety practices.
- Good communication skills with a positive, customer-first attitude.
- A team player who takes pride in their work and branch success.
- Willingness and aptitude for self development
Desirable Skills
- Have worked in a similar role/environment and/or prior FLT experience and licence
