Relief Kitchen Assistant
Job description
The role of the Relief Kitchen Assistant is to assist the Cook and Assistant Cook in the preparation of nutritional meals to meet the needs of the residents, within the Christian ethos of Harold McCauley House.
Responsibilities
- To assist the Cook/Assistant Cook with food preparation.
- To serve food.
- To take rubbish to bins.
- To clean and tidy work areas.
- To clean and tidy kitchen areas including shelves, drawers and cooker.
- To clean floors, tiles and appliances.
- To wash dishes.
- To assist with the preparation of snacks (eg. tea, sandwiches, suppers) etc.
- To prepare vegetables.
- To clean and tidy dining room. Setting up tables for meals and trays where appropriate.
- To arrange for the laundry of cloths, napkins and tea towels etc.
- To maintain records as required.
- To carry out any other reasonable duty as required by the management of the Home, which is necessary for the support and well-being of the residents..
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Evidence an understanding of and respect for the needs of older people.
- Willing to undertake appropriate training as required.
- Awareness of health and safety practices within a working environment.
- Proficiency in understanding, communicating, and writing in English to level required by the duties of the post.
- Basic numeracy required by the duties of the post (as endorsed by appropriate qualification or use of numeracy skills in a work or home environment).
- Availability for flexible hours working (including weekends), which may include hours beyond the normal shift pattern.
- Must be registered/willing to register with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council within 6 months of appointment.
