Technical Consultant - Industry 4.0 Technologies


Job description

The post holder will be responsible for developing relationships with businesses in the area of Industry 4.0 Technologies including (Robotics, Automation, Embedded Systems, Digital Transformation, Smart Manufacturing, IoT and mobile network technologies e.g. 5G, 4G. LTE etc). They will help businesses by specifying their requirements, new product development and consulting and sharing their knowledge by upskilling. Working with academic staff and College partners, they will be actively involved in the design, development and delivery of specific interventions within their areas of specialism to meet the outlined requirements. They will also be responsible for income generation and ensuring that the College meets targets within budget and on time.

Responsibilities

  • To assess, through engagement with employers and other research, up-skilling support including specialist training requirements of industry within the area of specialism.
  • To encourage business innovation, entrepreneurial activity and improvement for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the area of specialism and related industries.
  • To initiate, in collaboration with managers and stakeholders, actions necessary to achieve agreed objectives.
  • To organise seminars and other activities as required.
  • To prepare business cases as necessary to ensure appropriate resources are in place to secure and deliver business opportunities, ensuring that other identified industry needs are passed to the relevant Business Support Centre staff.
  • To ensure full contractual compliance and adherence to funding terms and conditions and to liaise with Finance to ensure that all work undertaken is audit compliant.
  • To drive continuous improvement in the delivery of up-skilling support to industry and to promote a culture of innovation in support services through reviewing processes, systems and ways of working to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
  • To ensure the service meets and/or exceeds requirements for all internal and external quality assessments and inspections.
  • To develop and strengthen partnership working with a range of external stakeholders including employers, professional bodies, government departments and statutory agencies.
  • To represent the FE sector/College on appropriate strategic groups, partnerships and advisory committees, meetings and events, as required.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Have at least a Level 6 qualification in the area of Automation, Robotics, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering or Electronic Engineering.
  • Demonstrate on the application form, by providing specific examples, at least one year’s employment experience working in the area of Smart Manufacturing, Automation, Robotics, Mechatronics, Embedded Systems, IoT or 5G Technologies.
  • Have a current driving licence and access to a car (Applicants with a disability who have been prevented from obtaining a driving license due to their disability (as defined by the DDA 1995) are eligible to apply)
