Senior Learning Support Officer


Job description

The College is seeking applications for a Fixed-Term (1 year) Senior Learning Support Officer working 30 hours/week to be based in our Strand Road Campus. The post holder will assist the Co-ordinator by being responsible for the effective management of the College’s support workers. This is a cross-College role which carries with it responsibility for providing support for all students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities or who need to access additional support in their learning.  The development of a programme of support for learners throughout the College in line with College Policies is an important aspect of the role as is the allocation of additional support funding and the implementation of Special Educational Needs and Disability Order (SENDO) legislation. Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the interview, enrolment and induction process to identify students with learning needs and specific learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
  • Carry out assessment of needs including screening tests, initial assessments and special requirements in consultation with specialists, where appropriate.
  • Co-ordinate, undertake and implement the NWRC diagnostic testing across the College.
  • Organise, support and promote student support on all College sites.
  • Have responsibility for the management and timetabling of support workers.
  • Be responsible for completing staff probations and appraisals for relevant staff.
  • Maintain ongoing audit and appropriate records in relation to the independent counselling service.
  • Maintain an asset register for specialist equipment issued to students.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Have at least a University Degree or equivalent qualification in special education needs, youth/social work, psychology, counselling or education studies.
  • Have at least two years employment experience providing support to learners in a post-16 environment.
  • Have a current driving licence and access to a car (applicants with a disability (as defined in the Disability Discrimination Act 1995) who have been prevented from obtaining a driving licence due to their disability are eligible to apply).

Desirable Skills

  • Have a Level 7 qualification in Individual Specialist Assessment e.g. CCET Certificate of Competence in Educational Testing.

Further Information

Salary: £38,220 per annum pro rata.
