Design Engineer - KTP Associate


Job description

The post holder will be responsible for developing relationships with businesses in the area of Industry 4.0 Technologies including (Robotics, Automation, Embedded Systems, Digital Transformation, Smart Manufacturing, IoT and mobile network technologies e.g. 5G, 4G. LTE etc). They will help businesses by specifying their requirements, new product development and consulting and sharing their knowledge by upskilling. Working with academic staff and College partners, they will be actively involved in the design, development and delivery of specific interventions within their areas of specialism to meet the outlined requirements. They will also be responsible for income generation and ensuring that the College meets targets within budget and on time.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate all activities outlined in the KTP workplan.
  • Develop and implement digital workflows integrating drone/site data, BIM, AI, Digital Twins and VR.
  • Analyse existing Grove Mechanical processes and identify opportunities for digital enhancement.
  • Capture, structure and integrate site and drone data into BIM environments.
  • Develop and test AI-supported analysis, including deviation detection and model validation.
  • Build and validate Digital Twin environments linked to live project data.
  • Configure and apply VR workflows for design review, coordination and client engagement.
  • Select and deliver pilot projects to test and refine the new workflows.
  • Produce documentation, SOPs, templates and training materials.
  • Lead digital change management initiatives, including staff engagement, training delivery, internal documentation, and knowledge transfer to ensure sustainable adoption of new processes.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Have at least a Level 5 qualification in Product/Industrial Design, Manufacturing/ Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Architecture OR Expect to complete a Level 5 qualification as described before the end of July 2026
  • Experience using Building Information Modelling (BIM) & 3D CAD to including, ISO 19650 principles; Structured BIM environments; Implementing/managing Common Data Environments; Construction information management workflows

Desirable Skills

  • Have at least a Level 6 qualification in Product/Industrial Design, Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Architecture or expect to complete a Level 6 qualification as described before the end of July 2026
  • At least 1 year's employment experience in an engineering, manufacturing or design sector role to include, BIM accreditation/audit preparation; Digital Twin platforms; Reality capture/drone data; Data analytics/Reporting; Delivering Training & Change
