Preschool Assistant


Job description

We are seeking to recruit a warm, enthusiastic and dedicated Level 3 Preschool Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team. We are looking for someone who is passionate about Early Years education and committed to creating a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where children can learn, develop and thrive through play. This rewarding role is ideal for someone who enjoys working as part of a team and making a positive difference in the lives of young children and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and delivering engaging play-based activities that support children’s learning and development.
  • Supervise and support children throughout the playgroup session, ensuring their safety, wellbeing and inclusion at all times.
  • Encourage children’s social, emotional, physical and creative development through positive interactions and play experiences.
  • Support children in daily routines and transitions within the playgroup environment.
  • Observe, monitor and contribute to children’s learning journeys and developmental records, including the use of Tapestry where appropriate.
  • Build positive relationships with children, parents/guardians and colleagues to create a welcoming and supportive playgroup community.
  • Help maintain a clean, organised and stimulating play environment both indoors and outdoors.
  • Promote positive behaviour using appropriate Early Years strategies and approaches.
  • Work collaboratively with the Playgroup Leader and staff team to support children’s individual needs and learning experiences.
  • Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and playgroup policies and procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings, training and professional development opportunities as required.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Level 3 qualification in Early Years Care and Education (or equivalent).
  • GCSE qualification or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development and Early Years practice.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage daily responsibilities.
  • Able to demonstrate a caring, patient and enthusiastic approach to working with young children.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Willingness to complete an Access NI check.

Desirable Skills

  • At least 1 years’ experience working in a playgroup, preschool or childcare setting.
  • Experience using Tapestry or other online learning journals.
  • Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Pre-School Curriculum.
  • Experience supporting children with additional needs.
  • ICT skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Creative and flexible approach to supporting children’s learning through play.
