Job description

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating an excavator or digger safely and efficiently to perform a variety of tasks, including digging trenches, lifting and moving materials, and assisting with site preparation. The role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety protocols to ensure the smooth operation of construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Operate the digger or excavator to dig trenches, holes, foundations, and other types of excavation work as per project specifications.
• Use the machinery to lift and move materials such as dirt, gravel, rock, and other construction materials.
• Prepare sites for foundations, drainage, or utilities by excavating areas to the correct depth and width.
• Operate heavy machinery such as excavators, dumpers and other earth-moving equipment safely and efficiently.
• Conduct pre-operation checks on the digger to identify potential safety hazards.
• Ensure compliance with all safety standards, guidelines, and regulations when operating machinery.
• Report any equipment issues or safety concerns immediately to the site supervisor or operations manager.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Valid CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) or NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) card, or equivalent certification for operating diggers and excavators.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Previous experience operating diggers, excavators, or other construction equipment.
• Proven ability to operate machinery safely and effectively on construction sites.

Desirable Skills

• Experience in the construction, civil engineering, or excavation industry preferred.
