Job description
The main responsibilities of the post include providing direct clinical care for haematology patients in Ward 50 based, in the North West Cancer Centre (NWCC), the haematology outpatient treatment facility, known as the Sperrin Suite and haematology patients in outlying wards or in the Emergency Department. Presently a proposal to provide out of hours cover for haematology inpatients is being processed and this may be a further requirement of the post. Although this is not a recognised training post, educational and career development opportunities will be a priority. The post forms a core component of the medical staffing. The successful applicants will join a team of Consultants, specialty doctors and trainees to deliver high quality services to patients. They will be responsible for the review of existing patients and participation on consultant ward rounds. They will be required to liaise with specialty teams, request appropriate investigations and formulate management plans.
Responsibilities
- The daily review of inpatients.
- So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the duties of the post, the post holder undertakes, from time to time, to deputise for absent colleagues the same or other grades.
- The post holder will have protected, supported and supervised 1.5 SPA per week to allow them to pursue an interest in either: Medical Education; Simulation; Quality Improvement; or a Medical Specialty.
- The post holder will be expected to participate in initiatives to improve clinical effectiveness and maximize the use of the hospitals facilities.
- The post holder will be expected to take continuing professional development within the guidelines set by the General Medical Council and the Royal College.
- To participate in regular audit.
- Participation in consultant ward rounds.
- Providing same day emergency care.
- Liaise with other specialties and the multidisciplinary team as needed.
- Undertake resuscitation training and other statutory/clinical training sessions.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Must have Full Registration with the General Medical Council (London) and Licence to Practice at the date of commencing employment.
- Have successfully completed a UK Foundation Year 2 Programme or have equivalent experience and competencies.
Desirable Skills
- Interest in research, audit or QI (Quality Improvement)
