Job description

Assist nurses in the provision of nursing care, maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Responsibilities

• Ensure that specific instructions regarding the treatment and diet of the residents are carried out and recorded as directed, for example, fluid intake.
• Co-operate and assist nursing, medical and domestic staff as required.
• Deal courteously with residents at all times no matter how aggressive or confused they become.
• Ensure a harmonious atmosphere is maintained in the home at all times for the comfort of the residents.
• Assist in the care and preparation of the residents’ clothing and personal belongings.
• Ensure that the residents’ bedrooms are clean and odour free at all times and that they are fitted with well laundered and matching bed clothes.
• Ensure that residents, who require assistance with dressing and personal hygiene, are properly groomed and dressed at all times.
• Contribute to daily activities designed to stimulate and entertain residents and to suggest further activities that can be carried out by staff within the home.
• Assist in the admission and discharge of residents as directed.
• Ensure that all complaints and\or incidents are quickly and concisely reported.
• Assist in the reporting of supplies that are required for residents’ care and for the maintenance and hygiene of the home.
• Continuously observe the Health and Safety policies of the home as documented in the Health and Safety Procedures file.
• Ensure that the relatives of the residents are welcomed to the home and shown hospitality.
• Observe and report any changes in the residents’ condition or behaviour, for example, appetite.
• Maintain accurate nursing documentation as required.
• Carry out any other duties which be reasonably required within the post.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• No essential skills required.
• The ability to work independently.
• Flexibility to work shifts across a 7 day rota.
• The ability to undertake the full range of tasks necessary to the residents’ care, comfort and safety.

Desirable Skills

• Previous experience in a Care role is preferred but not necessary
• Previous experience as a Care Assistant in a Nursing Home is preferred but not necessary.
