Job description

To conduct scheduled/unscheduled patrols in assigned area(s) to discourage crime, low-level disorder, anti-social behaviour and enhance confidence and links with residents and relevant local agencies, and to observe, report, review and action as appropriate in accordance with legal and health and safety obligations. Responsibilities

  • To undertake high visibility directed foot patrols supporting all members of the public including those that are vulnerable in all targeted/assigned areas.
  • To record and report monthly incident data on all criminal/non-criminal activities/incidents affecting the health, safety and welfare of the public to the Community Safety Manager and all relevant stakeholders in accordance with procedures.
  • E.g. on street drinking, private/industrial waste, litter, criminal damage, antisocial behaviour, defective street lighting, noise pollution and parking violations etc.
  • To advise on low-level crime prevention initiatives and provide information to residents, businesses, statutory and community organisations.
  • To act as a point of contact for the public and assist in the provision of community safety information to include advice on issues such as home security.
  • To render initial first aid (authorised persons only) as required.
  • To provide witness statements as and when required.
  • To prepare and deliver service awareness presentations to relevant stakeholders and interested groupings in the promotion of service provision(s).
  • To ensure all cleaning, day-to-day maintenance and storage of equipment (technical & personal), materials and supplies including Community Safety Warden facilities are maintained to specified standards of hygiene and cleanliness etc.
  • To conduct all duties in such a way as to promote and develop the reputation and public profile of the Community Safety Scheme and participate in the facilities services training, induction and staff development programme(s).
  • Participate in and ensure compliance with all Council policies and procedures and operate within the highest standards of personal behaviour which reflect the core values of the organisation.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health and Safety requirements and legislation in accordance with Council’s Policies and Procedures.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to scale, which may be required from time to time.
  • Comply with and actively promote the Council’s policies and procedures on all aspects of equality.
  • To report as appropriate referrals to other Council staff and statutory agencies where particular expertise is required for enforcement purposes e.g. noise pollution, illegal dumping, criminal damage/incidents etc.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • 4 GCSEs grade C or above or equivalent qualification.
  • One year’s experience interagency working and experience of working with members of the public / communities or particular sections of communities.
  • Must hold a valid and current driving license to carry out duties of the post.

Desirable Skills

  • Possession of a valid First Aid qualification.
  • Experience in any of the following areas: community safety, crime prevention, community liaison, community development or youth development.

Further Information

Work Time: Must be available to work unsocial hours after 5pm and weekends, to be confirmed.
