Job description

To lead Technical Pharmacy Services within Patient Services across the NHSCT. To assist the Principal Pharmacist (Patient Services) in ensuring the optimal delivery of a safe, efficient and effective Dispensing and Distribution Service. To manage allocated Patient Services Technician / Support Staff. To ensure Patient Services Technician and Support Staff undergo comprehensive training in all applicable Service Areas, maintaining written records. To assist the Professional Lead for Pharmacy Technical Services with the development, implementation and review of Technical Patient Services in line with Departmental Objectives.

Responsibilities

• To lead, manage and supervise the operational activities of allocated Pharmacy Technicians and/or Pharmacy Assistants within the Dispensaries and/or Pharmacy Stores, including organising rotas and allocation of annual leave to ensure service.
• To be responsible for the day to day supervision and operation of the Dispensing and Distribution Service by actively co-ordinating, delegating and supervising dispensary activities and workflow, to ensure deadlines are met and daily work schedules.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience on appointment as a pharmacy technician, 2 of which must have been as a Band 5 in a hospital pharmacy department.
• If qualified after June 2009: BTEC and NVQ3 in Pharmacy Services, or equivalent Pharmacy qualifications. If qualified before June 2009: BTEC level 3 National Certificate in Pharmacy Services or equivalent Pharmacy qualification.
