Job description

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of person centered care and the development, implementation and evaluation of care, for patients with both malignant and non-malignant conditions attending the BHSCT Haematology Service, for assessment, administration of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) and/or supportive therapies associated with diagnosis and/or treatment. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and will be required to supervise and demonstrate procedures to qualified and/or unqualified staff. Responsibilities

  • Administration of cytotoxic SACT drugs, biological therapies given intravenously and orally, research trial infusions, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections of hormonal and biological therapies.
  • The management of syringe drivers to provide 24-hour antiemetic and analgesic medications.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • 3 years post registration nursing experience, 2 years of which should be in a Haematology or Oncology environment.
  • Registered staff nurse on part 1 or 12 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council register.

Desirable Skills

  • Be in possession of or working towards a degree in Nursing or other Health related subject.
