Job description
The Board is responsible for delivering independent policing oversight in Northern Ireland. We are a non-departmental public body of the Department of Justice and have 19 Members; 10 of whom are nominated by the 5 main political parties and 9 Independent Members appointed by the Department of Justice. The Compliance team provides advice and guidance to the organisation in respect of Freedom of Information (FOI); Data Protection (DP); and Records Management issues. The Data Protection & Information Manager’s is the lead, subject matter expert, responsible for ensuring the Board meets its statutory obligations and other duties within these areas. Responsibilities
- The Compliance team provides advice and guidance to the organisation in respect of Freedom of Information (FOI); Data Protection (DP); and Records Management issues.
- The Data Protection & Information Manager’s is the lead, subject matter expert, responsible for ensuring the Board meets its statutory obligations and other duties within these areas.
- The Data Protection & Information Manager will also be a member of the Board’s Senior Leadership Team and will contribute to leadership of the Board.
- Supporting other colleagues on key Board priorities that may not fall within the Compliance Team’s direct responsibility.
- To undertake the Data Protection Officer (DPO) statutory role. To ensure that the Board meets its statutory obligations under the FOI, DP and Records management legislation.
- Day-to-day management of access to information requests and appeals (primarily under Freedom of Information (FOI) and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) / DPA 2018 legislation).
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Applicants must, by the closing date for applications:. Have a relevant Freedom of Information (FOI) professional certification for example, the British Computer Society Practitioner Certificate in Freedom of Information.
- OR Be willing to achieve this within 1 year of accepting the post.
- AND Have a relevant Data Protection (DP) professional certificate for example, the British Computer Society Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection.
- OR Be willing to achieve this within 1 year of accepting the post.
- AND Have at least two years’ experience within the last eight years of promoting and delivering compliance with the Freedom of Information (FOI) / Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) / Data Protection (DP) legislation.
- AND Have at least two years' experience within the last eight years of records management including operating a retention and disposal scheme.
Desirable Skills
- In addition, applicants should be aware that after an eligibility sift, should it be necessary to shortlist candidates to go forward to the next stage of selection, the following shortlisting criteria will be used in the order listed:
- Demonstrate, by way of examples, experience within the last eight years contribution to the drafting of FOI/EIR or records management related policies or procedures.
- 2. Demonstrate, by way of examples, experience within the last eight years promoting awareness of information management requirements to a diverse audience, such as delivering training.
