Professional and Technical Officer (PTO) - DVA Operations & Testing


Job description

PTO Roles within DVA (Testing) Whilst there are several PTO roles within DVA (Testing) we expect to fill vacancies for the following two specific roles from this competition. 1. Test Centre Deputy Centre Managers: These roles are test centre based and include supporting the test centre manager, managing, guiding and supporting MOT Vehicle Examiners and Driver Test Examiners, ensuring consistent vehicle test quality, and have a strong staff management and customer facing role. 2. Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) Specialist Testing Examiners: These roles based in Lisburn and Mallusk test centres primarily involve conducting a range of specialist vehicle tests in relation to the build or manufacture of various vehicle types for approval tests which sit outside the normal annual vehicle testing arrangements. A strong technical knowledge is required for this role. Current locations for these roles are Lisburn and Mallusk.

Responsibilities

  • Strive to achieve all Agency and Ministerial targets through careful planning, effective and efficient service delivery.
  • Provide guidance to staff and customers on new technical or revised policies.
  • Respond to correspondence or complaints from internal and external customers in a timely manner.
  • Conduct preliminary investigation into any allegations or evidence of staff malpractice, immediately the matter arises.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Applicants must, by the closing date for applications: Possess one of the following qualifications. Please refer to page 13 of CIB for list of qualifications.
  • Be a fully qualified mechanic having served at least a 3-year apprentice programme in motor vehicle servicing and repair.
  • Have the knowledge and recent experience (i.e., at least 2 years’ experience gained within the last 6 years) required to carry out annual roadworthiness examinations on a range of vehicles.
  • Hold a full current driving licence (which includes Category B) and have access to a form of transport, which will enable them to carry out the full range of duties of the post.
