Locum Consultant in Gastroenterology


Job description

The Western Trust is seeking to employ a Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist to add to the existing team based in Altnagelvin, who will provide some Endoscopy sessions in the other Hospitals in the Trust. This Recruitment exercise is to recruit one Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist (10 PAs) based in Altnagelvin Hospital. Although we are seeking to recruit full-time positions, the Trust will give consideration to candidates seeking part-time employment. The Trust hopes to compile a waiting list of suitable candidates for a period of twelve months should similar vacancies arise in this time. The successful candidates upon employment will have access to office with access to Trust computer (desktop/laptop), relevant IT equipment to carry out their job seamlessly and access to all relevant IT systems. The successful employee will have secretarial support to carry out the administrative duties in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • The prime clinical responsibility is to be accountable for the continuous care of patients within a team setting and as part of this responsibility, undertake shared Rota arrangements with colleagues in post.
  • Provide the highest possible level of senior decision making within Gastroenterology for patients in the care of the Trust.
  • Promote and develop multidisciplinary teamwork in the speciality of Gastroenterology, particularly in the management of GI cancer patients through the MDT pathway.
  • Conduct the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the management of the service in a timely manner.
  • The post-holder will work together with colleagues in the further development of gastroenterology and endoscopy department

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Hold or be eligible for Full General Medical Council (London) registration with a Licence to Practise and ideally be on the Specialist Register for Gastroenterology.
  • Have clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Gastroenterology.
  • Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment or
  • have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post and meet the on-call commitments.

Desirable Skills

  • MRCP(UK) or an equivalent recognized qualification.
  • Publications/ Presentations pertinent to the job description.
  • 6 months or more working in a specialised intestinal failure unit.
  • Experience working in an intestinal transplant unit (tertiary level).
