Adviceline Co-Ordinator / Therapist (PW2)
Job description
Barnardo's is seeking a motivated and compassionate Children's Therapist/Counsellor to join our Child Bereavement Service CBS. Funded by the Public Health Agency PHA the Child Bereavement Service specialises in postvention support following death by suicide, murder-suicide, or similarly traumatic circumstances. This specialist service supports children and young people aged 4 to18 along with their families, who have been bereaved through suicide.
Responsibilities
- To manage and co-ordinate all aspects of the adviceline, over 3 shifts responding sensitively, calmly and knowledgably to telephone calls, emails and advising and signposting as required.
- To accept and complete appropriate referrals, organise and allocate consultations and assessments alongside the team.
- To identify and assess needs of traumatically bereaved children and young people in the first instance with their key adults during the adviceline calls.
- To offer expert advice, guidance and psychoeducation to families/professionals based on good practice and age appropriateness based on the information shared.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Advanced Diploma or Foundation Degree in Counselling (accredited or ready for accreditation), Art Therapy or equivalent including 350 hours of clinically supervised practice hours.
- Experience of working therapeutically and directly with children, young people and families on both a 1-1 basis and in groups.
- Experience of planning and delivering therapeutic group work with children and young people or adults.
- Demonstrable experience of following safeguarding protocol in the best interests of children and young people and their families.
- Registration with BACP/ IACP, HCPC, NISCC or equivalent relevant professional body and working towards accreditation as appropriate.
- Ability to drive and access to a car with business insurance are essential or the requirements of the job.
