Job description

Undertake abdominal ultrasound scanning to a high standard as part of both the regional AAA screening and surveillance programmes, in accordance with national standard operating procedures. Ensure that service users / patients attending clinics are informed and aware of the implications of AAA screening and surveillance in accordance with local protocols. Explain results from the scan, reassuring service users / patients attending the screening and surveillance programmes, especially where barriers to understanding exist.

Responsibilities

• Undertake ultrasound scanning on service users / patients in accordance with protocols and standard operating procedures.
• Undertake appropriate checks to correctly identify service users / patients and obtain informed consent within agreed protocols.
• Verbally provide scan results to service users patients at clinic, which will be confirmed in writing by the Programme Office, as well as giving further information and offering support as appropriate.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Have a good overall standard of general education (5 GCSE at grades A-C or equivalent qualification including Science)
• Evidence of ongoing commitment to self-development, training or education, the post holder will be required to undertake and successfully complete the nationally approved and accredited competency based training course.

Desirable Skills

• Provide evidence of experience of working within a clinical environment, with a good understanding of vascular disease and its management
