Role purpose: The Family Support and Engagement Coordinator will lead the development and delivery of high quality, needs led family support services for families affected by cancer, in line with Hive Cancer Support’s strategic plan. The post holder will coordinate and supervise the Family Support Team and volunteers. Working under the direction of the Project Manager, the post holder will lead and develop innovative, person centred family support services for families affected by cancer, aligned with Hive’s strategic vision and business plan. They will plan, deliver and evaluate programmes, manage referral, assessment and review pathways, and ensure services are inclusive, accessible and responsive to complex needs and bereavement. The role includes acting as a key point of contact for families, providing emotional, practical and informational support, coordinating casework, undertaking assessments, home visits and follow up contacts, co producing support plans, and facilitating individual and group based support for parents, children and young people. The post holder will ensure best practice in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, maintain up to date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance, contribute to quality assurance, performance indicators and outcome monitoring, and keep accurate, timely and confidential records in line with data protection and organisational policies. They will supervise and coordinate staff and volunteers in the Family Support Team, provide regular supervision and informal support, lead or support recruitment, induction, training and ongoing development, and foster a positive, collaborative team culture focused on continuous learning. The role also involves developing partnerships with community, voluntary and statutory agencies, representing Hive at multi agency forums, promoting user involvement in planning, delivery and evaluation, and contributing to outreach, awareness raising and community education around cancer and family wellbeing. The post holder will manage registration, data collection and monitoring systems, produce regular reports for funders and stakeholders, monitor programme and service costs against agreed budgets, and support funding applications to sustain and develop services. They will maintain confidentiality, participate in supervision and training, work flexibly (including some evenings and weekends), and undertake other reasonable duties to support the effective functioning of Hive Cancer Support.

  • Build and lead partnerships, engage families in service design, deliver outreach on cancer and wellbeing, and manage monitoring, reporting and budgets to ensure effective, sustainable family support services.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Relevant degree in a health, social or community field, OR 3 plus years direct family support experience, and 3 plus years in community work and 2 plus years supervising staff or volunteers.

Post title: Family Support and Engagement Coordinator Responsible to: Project Manager Location: Gasyard Centre and outreach locations across Derry/Londonderry Hours of work: 30 hours per week Salary: NJC Scale 4, spinal column point 11 (NICVA guidance), pro rata. The current full time equivalent for SCP 11 is set in line with the NJC pay agreement and updated annually; the pro rated salary for 30 hours will be adjusted in line with these uplifts.
