SHSCT Specialist Occupational Therapist ABIRT Band 7
Job description
Edenderry House Cherrytrees Resource Ctr. The post holder will be involved in the planning development, delivery and evaluation of a highly specialised Occupational Therapy Service to adults across the SHSCT area with specific physical, cognitive, vocational, behavioural and emotional impairment affecting their functional performance, relating to acquired brain injury as an integral part of the Acquired Brain Injury Rehabilitation Team (ABIRT). The post holder will provide community based rehabilitation and support to individuals and their families / carers post Acquired Brain Injury. The post holder will play a lead role in providing consultation and training / education to others in service provision for Acquired Brain Injury. The post holder will act as an Advanced Practitioner Occupational Therapist for Acquired Brain Injury Services within the SHSCT providing leadership, second opinions, training and acting in a consultative role to Occupational therapy colleagues and other senior professionals regarding the management of Acquired Brain Injury conditions. The post includes responsibility for the day to day management of the Occupational therapy service within the ABIRT including allocation of workload and the supervision of Occupational Therapy staff and rehab / support staff. This service is provided in accordance with local and national guidelines, and requires close interdisciplinary working within the ABIRT including statutory and non-statutory services.
Responsibilities
- To act as an Advanced Practitioner Occupational Therapist for ABIRT services and act in an advisory role for Occupational therapy, providing second opinions to other Occupational Therapy colleagues in relation to clients with complex Brain Injury
- To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of clients in your care.
- Ensure that your own practice and that of staff under your supervision is in keeping with the Occupational Therapy Code of Professional Conduct and meets the required professional, national and local standards for Occupational Therapy practice.

Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- A minimum of five years post graduate experience and have three years’ post graduate experience as a Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist working with adults with a disability and/or neuro-disability
- BSc (Hons)or Dip COT in Occupational Therapy r related Degree with post graduate qualification in Occupational Therapy
- Be on the live Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)register

Desirable Skills
- Recent experience of principles and techniques of treatment related to brain injury rehabilitation
- Experience of completing research /audit
- Completion of relevant training in the area of neuro-disability
