Job description

The post-holder will support the Lead Occupational Therapist in planning, delivering and evaluation of the Occupational Therapy Service provided to Oncology and Haematology patients attending the Cancer Centre and designated wards within the Belfast City Hospital, on a day-to-day basis. The post-holder will have a comprehensive knowledge of and implement specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions to manage complex physical, functional, social and psychological consequences of cancer and its treatment. Responsibilities

  • Have a comprehensive knowledge of potential, current and long-term physical, functional, psychological and social consequences of cancer and its treatment.
  • Have knowledge of and implement specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions to manage complex physical, functional, social and psychological consequences of cancer and its treatment
  • Ensure that service users expressed individual beliefs and choices are taken into consideration as far as resources allow, when conducting assessments, planning the delivery of care and identifying appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Carry out Occupational Therapy assessments in line with evidence based practice, legislation, policies and procedures and/or established protocols / established theories and models, monitoring individuals etc.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Diploma of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists or Degree in Occupational Therapy recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT).
  • Be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Must have 2 years’ post qualification experience, 12 months of which should be in physical medicine.

Desirable Skills

  • Evidence of on-going post-graduate training, some of which relates to the specialism of oncology/ haematology/ palliative care.
  • Either has or is willing to gain, a Masters or Masters level oncology /haematology/ palliative care qualification.
