Summary DART is seeking caring, reliable, and community-minded individuals to join our team as Community Transport Drivers. This is more than a driving job. As a Community Transport Driver, you will play an important role in helping older people, people with disabilities, and individuals living with dementia remain connected to their communities, healthcare appointments, social activities, and support services. Working across our community transport services, including our new dementia-friendly L.I.F.T project, you will provide safe, accessible, and person-centred transport while supporting passengers with dignity, patience, and respect This role is fixed term for three years (with the possibility of extension) . It involves significant physical activity, including assisting passengers, securing wheelchairs and mobility aids, operating accessibility equipment, and frequent entry and exit from vehicles throughout the working day. As DART operates demand-responsive transport services, flexibility is essential. Working hours may include occasional evenings, weekends, early starts, and late finishes. Successful applicants will be required to complete MiDAS training and undergo an Enhanced AccessNI check. Responsibilities

  • Drive DART minibuses safely and professionally.
  • Assist passengers to and from vehicles.
  • Secure wheelchairs and mobility equipment.
  • Support older people, people with disabilities, and vulnerable adults during their journeys.
  • Complete vehicle checks and required records.
  • Use digital systems including electronic runsheets, email, and payment technology.
  • Work closely with the Operations Team to deliver a high-quality service.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Full UK Driving Licence with Category D1 (by test).
  • At least 2 years' experience driving larger vehicles within the last 5 years.
  • Experience working with older people, people with disabilities, vulnerable adults, or individuals requiring additional support.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Confidence using smartphones, email, and digital systems.
  • A caring, patient, and respectful approach. Flexibility to meet the needs of a demand-responsive transport service.
