Job description
Clinical Nurse Specialist - Skin Cancer. The CNS will work under the direction of the Nurse Consultants and act as a clinical expert, providing expert care, treatment and support for patients with complex skin cancers. The post holder will be expected to contribute to advancing the body of knowledge through education, research and audit as well as developing practice in others with regard to this patient group. They will be expected to play a key role within the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust skin cancer team and the wider NI skin cancer multi- isciplinary teams in order to ensure a seamless, co-ordinated approach to care and timely onward referral to other professionals and agencies as appropriate.
Responsibilities
- The post holder will promote and support effective team working, fostering a culture of openness and transparency.
- The post holder will ensure that they take all concerns raised with them seriously and act in accordance with the South Eastern Health
- Develop and maintain a culture of person-centred care within the skin cancer service.
- Ensure safe and effective practice.
- Adhere to Department of Health and NMC guidelines for practice requirements and standards, for example, safe handling, administration, storage and custody of medicinal products.
- Adhere to Trust guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Ensure that organisational goals are reflected in own and service objectives.
- Contribute to the development of the Trust’s policies and strategies, where appropriate.
- Maintain own professional and personal development in accordance with the NMC (2015) The Code: Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour for Nurses and Midwives.
- Establish and maintain relationships based on mutual respect communicating on a regular basis with the patient / client, relatives and carers’ in the provision of care and services.
- Adhere to the Data Protection Act (1998).
- Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring policies, procedures and protocols.
- Create an environment which supports a culture of learning and reflective practice for all staff.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Have five years post-registration experience within a plastic surgery / dermatology setting caring for patients with complex skin cancers Shortlisting by Application Form.
- Registration Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the live NMC Register and Have obtained a diploma /degree / post graduate diploma and Shortlisting by Application Form.
- Hold a specialist practice course relevant to oncology or be willing to undertake within 2 years.
- Other Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport a
