Consultant Nurse - Urology


Job description

The Consultant nurse in Urology will practise a high degree of professional autonomy at an advanced level in the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care. The Consultant nurse role will blend a significant proportion of direct, higher level clinical care (minimum of 50% of job role) with education, research, service development and evaluation activities. The postholder will exercise advanced knowledge, skill and expertise in the provision of patient management in conjunction with the urology clinical nurse specialists and local and regional urology teams. He / she will work in collaboration with the cancer management team multidisciplinary teams locally and regionally and. The postholder will establish, implement and support the development of Consultant nurse led clinics in response to service need. Responsibilities

  • Exercise advanced levels of clinical judgment, knowledge and skill and possess a high degree of personal/professional autonomy to enable complex decision-making.
  • To be able to clinically risk assess patients pre-operatively and to assess appropriateness of surgical procedure.
  • To be able to discuss and refer patients to alternative therapeutic interventions if surgery is not appropriate.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Live NMC Registration on Part 1 (ADULT) of the NMC register.
  • A minimum of 8 years post registration experience with at least 7 years in the area of urology nursing
  • At least 3 years experience in a senior cancer nursing role - band 7 or above
