Job description
To provide high quality nursing care taking a holistic approach to ensure that the care delivered by the nursing team is evidence based. To ensure the fulfilment of the Charter of Residents Rights including voting and other values of citizenship, fulfilment, dignity, privacy, choice, and independence in accordance with their care plan and assessments.
Responsibilities
- To adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct and to promote the standards within this Code to the home’s registered nursing staff.
- To familiarise yourself with the DHSSPS Nursing Homes Regulations 2005 and DHSSPS Care Standards for Nursing Homes 2015 and to promote these standards within the home.
- To keep abreast of changes in legislation, best practice guidelines and directives from the DHSSPS, RQIA, Health Care Trusts, HSENI and other regulatory bodies to ensure the home operates at a level which satisfies all standard setting organisations.
- To maintain confidentiality in relation to all aspects of residents and staffing affairs that you are party to in the course of your work and to not divulge any of this information to third parties beyond that which is expected as part of your role.
- To present yourself and act in such a way at all times that maintains your professionalism and portrays a positive image of the company to residents, relatives, fellow staff members, health care professionals and visitors to the home.
- To maintain effective communication channels with the home’s management team to ensure the care delivered is of a continuously high standard.
- To be flexible in your availability outside of normal working hours for communications related to the management of home and welfare of residents.
- To maintain effective communications with residents, relatives, staff members, Trust representatives, GP’s and the multi-disciplinary team as appropriate.
- To report any staffing issues to the HR Manager in a timely manner.
- To monitor staffing handover periods while you are on duty to ensure they are clear, concise and timely.
- To intervene when handovers are not being conducted appropriately and provide guidance as to the correct procedure.
- To participate in regular staff meetings that are well structured and have a clear agenda.
- To participate in residents/relatives meetings on a quarterly basis.
- To contribute to management meetings by preparing in advance and ensuring assigned actions are completed within reason.
- To offer potential solutions to operational, staffing and care issues as situations arise.
- To resolve any issues or complaints that you become aware of with residents, their representatives, GP’s and the multi-disciplinary in relation to resident’s care provision.
- To ensure health care professionals attend the home for residents that require their services and that any advice or recommendations made are documented and integrated into their plan of care.
- To adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct and to promote the standards within this Code to the home’s registered nursing staff.
- To familiarise yourself with the DHSSPS Nursing Homes Regulations.
