After School Club Assistant


Job description

Draperstown After School Club provides childcare and play activities for children of primary school age. We operate each day after school and also offer all day care during some holiday periods. We provide an inclusive service, ensuring equal opportunities for all families.

Responsibilities

  • To share responsibility for the safety and welfare of the children at the Club, following procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality care.
  • To be vigilant and protect children from harm or abuse, reporting any concerns immediately in accordance with Safeguarding and Whistleblowing Policies.
  • To assist with school collections, walking the children to the Club from the school and also travelling with the minibus driver to collect children.
  • To assist in providing creative and appropriate play and learning opportunities.
  • To provide additional assistance for children with particular difficulties (e.g. communication, behaviour, mobility) being particularly mindful of safeguarding and health and safety.
  • To assist with the supervision of homework and the preparation and serving of snacks.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Must be in possession of or working towards an NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development or equivalent.
  • A minimum of six months experience working in a childcare or school setting with 4-11 year olds.
  • Good standard of English and Maths.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and health and safety.
  • Ability to interact enthusiastically with other team members and the children.
  • Awareness of the need for boundaries and confidentiality.

Desirable Skills

  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent).
  • Current Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
  • Current Food Hygiene Certificate.
