Job description

This role will be on an initial 6 month fixed term contract beginning early August. The Installation Technician is an entry-level position. The purpose of the role is to support ISDM's project delivery team with the installation of structured cabling and supporting infrastructure across customer sites throughout the UK and Ireland. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of experienced engineers and project managers, assisting with cable installation, site preparation and general project support. Full training and ongoing mentoring will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin a career within the technology and infrastructure industry. Key duties will include supporting the installation of structured cabling, assisting with cable routing and containment, preparing work areas and materials, and ensuring work is completed safely and to a high standard. The role will also involve supporting engineers with testing, basic installation activities and maintaining accurate records where required. As much of our work is carried out on live customer sites, the successful candidate must be comfortable working flexible hours, including evenings and occasional overnight work, to minimise disruption to customer operations

Responsibilities

  • Support engineers with the installation of structured cabling, including Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat6A systems.
  • Assist with pulling, routing and securing network cabling through buildings and containment systems.
  • Help install cable containment including trunking, basket tray, conduit and cable tray. Assist with installing network outlets, patch panels and cabinets.
  • Support basic cable termination, testing and fault finding under the supervision of experienced Engineers.
  • Read and work from drawings, floor plans and cable schedules. Prepare work areas, tools, materials and equipment before installations begin.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
  • Assist with loading, unloading and maintaining tools, materials and company vehicles. Communicate professionally with customers, colleagues and other trades on site.
  • Report any issues, defects or delays to the Lead Engineer or Project Manager.
  • Represent ISDM professionally at all times when working on customer premises.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • An interest in technology, construction or hands-on practical work.

Desirable Skills

  • A willingness to learn and develop new technical skills.
  • Comfortable working in a physically active, site-based environment.
  • Happy travelling to customer sites across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and occasionally the wider UK.
  • Comfortable working evening shifts and occasional overnight work where project requirements demand.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely under supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in producing quality work.
  • Reliable, punctual and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Able to work independently once trained.
  • A full UK driving licence is desirable but not essential.
  • CSCS, ECS or CSR card would be advantageous, although training can be provided where required.
