Saw Operator
Job description
We are looking for a reliable and safety-focused Saw Operator to join our firewood production team. The role involves operating cutting equipment to process timber into firewood products while maintaining production targets, quality standards, and strict health & safety procedures.
Responsibilities
- Operate firewood saws, log splitters, conveyors, and related machinery safely and efficiently.
- Cut logs to required lengths and specifications.
- Inspect timber for defects, metal contamination, or unsafe material before cutting.
- Carry out routine machine checks, cleaning, and basic maintenance.
- Report equipment faults or safety issues immediately.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area.
- Follow all health & safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times.
- Assist with loading/unloading timber and general yard duties when required.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Previous experience operating saws, forestry equipment, or machinery preferred.
- Capable of heavy manual handling in outdoor conditions.
- Strong awareness of workplace safety and machine operation risks.
- Ability to work independently and maintain productivity.
- Basic mechanical knowledge is an advantage.
Desirable Skills
- Good attention to detail.
- Practical and hands-on mindset.
- Able to work under pressure and meet production targets.
- Safety-conscious at all times.
- Forklift or chainsaw certification is beneficial but not essential.
Further Information
Working Conditions. Outdoor and yard-based environment. Exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather conditions. Use of PPE including gloves, eye protection, ear defenders, and safety boots required.
