Senior Learning Support Officer


Job description

The College is seeking applications for a fixed-term (1 year) Senior Learning Support Officer working 30 hours/week to be based in our Strand Road Campus. The post holder will assist the Co-ordinator by being responsible for the effective management of the College’s support workers. This is a cross-College role which carries with it responsibility for providing support for all students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities or who need to access additional support in their learning. The development of a programme of support for learners throughout the College in line with College Policies is an important aspect of the role as is the allocation of additional support funding and the implementation of Special Educational Needs and Disability Order (SENDO) legislation. Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the interview, enrolment and induction process to identify students with learning needs and specific learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
  • Co-ordinate, undertake and implement the NWRC diagnostic testing across the College.
  • Have responsibility for the management and timetabling of support workers.
  • Maintain ongoing audit and appropriate records in relation to the independent counselling service.
  • Promote the independent counselling service for students.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Have at least a University Degree or equivalent qualification in Special Education Needs, Youth/Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or Education Studies.
  • Have at least 2 years employment experience providing support to learners in a post-16 environment.
  • Have a current driving licence and access to a car. Applicants with a disability who have been prevented from obtaining a driving licence due to their disability (as defined by the DDA 1995) are eligible to apply.

Desirable Skills

  • Have a Level 7 qualification in Individual Specialist Assessment e.g. CCET - Certificate of Competence in Educational Testing.

Salary: £38,220 - £40,777 per annum pro rata. The College welcomes applications from applicants with a disability.
